The Maze

Estimated read time 2 min read

The Maze stars former NYPD detective John Corey as he is drawn into another dangerous action-adventure thriller. Convalescing at his Uncle Harry’s home, John’s ex-girlfriend, Detective Beth Penrose, shows up on his doorstep one day with a job offer to work for a private investigative company called Security Solutions. The catch? There may be something fishy going on in the company, and Beth and Southold police chief, Sylvester Maxwell and a group of rogue investigators want to get to the bottom of it.

This book had a really great storyline, and John Corey is your typical sarcastic, good-looking protagonist. Unfortunately, this book was like a slug. I had a hard time getting through the book because it was so redundant, with conversations being repeated among characters. There were so many details about inane things as well. The end was exciting and satisfying, but everything up to this buildup lingered a little too long, including the sexual escapades and history of John. This book would have been much better if it had just gotten to the point. Also, the name of the book is The Maze, which really only comes into play in the last few chapters and is so random that I found myself rolling my eyes.
