Goldfinches is exactly the sort of beautiful book I'd leave face-out

Some books earn their spot just by looking lovely. Goldfinches sounds like one of the rare pretty ones that also has real substance behind it.

I always notice when a book feels giftable without feeling empty. The best versions do both jobs at once, they draw you in visually, then give you enough depth that you do not feel talked down to.

This sounds like exactly that kind of book. I can already picture it face-out on a display table, quietly outselling louder covers beside it.
